It’s that time of year… and it’s all happening! Actually, it has been since Halloween! Of course, I have created more work for myself by starting a crafting circle (which meets in my home), celebrating Thanksgiving (sort of) which I have never done before and is not traditional in this part of the world and agreeing to attend/help cater for a variety of celebrations including the ubiquitous Christmas ones… and my own blessingway (that’s a kind of baby shower, for those who haven’t heard the term before). Phew! Well, in any case, I have my work cut out for me. I am also hitting the 30 week mark of my pregnancy tomorrow (woohoo), so there’s a new type of tiredness kicking in. It’s hard to complain though, seeing as a few short weeks ago I was on bed rest and had very little cause for celebration, it might seem.
So, due to hectic scheduling, Project Pinterest (for at least the next couple of weeks) will feature two editions running simultaneously:
Project Pinterest, weeks 7 & 8 (The Blessingway Edition)
and
Project Pinterest, weeks 7 & 8 (Operation Advent- a prelude to Christmas)
The Blessingway Edition will involve:
Creating mood boards for ideas/shopping lists/colour schemes (see inspiration found on Pinterest below)
Purchasing baking and crafting supplies in order to execute my chosen theme (butterflies!)
Planning the menu
Planning the favours and activities
Making buffet labels
Making decorations
Wrapping favours
Preparing food in advance
Making fondant butterflies and flowers
Making and decorating cupcakes
Making and decorating cookies
Setting up
*I am doing this with the help of my husband and a dear friend is helping organise the guest list and invites. There is no baby shower “culture” here, so most people don’t have one at all. I am sure my parents and in-laws will assist too if asked, but I tend to be very DIY about events 😉 I really want to have this event to celebrate my pregnancy and the metamorphosis I have gone through as a result of it (hence the butterfly motif), which is why my focus is on being with friends, thanking them for their support, sharing food, support and laughter… not receiving presents 🙂
Operation Advent- a prelude to Christmas will involve:
Putting up the decorations (we started last night)
Buying and decorating our first Christmas tree (although I have been with my husband for 10 years, we’ve never had a tree ourselves due to always celebrating with our parents)
Making glitter pinecones with my little L
Doing some activities from the Usborne Winter wonderland sticker book with L
Making Christmas Crackles for the baby Christmas party on Friday
Baking cupcakes and making frosting in preparation for our first Christmas party with friends this Saturday
Decorating cupcakes and gingerbread cookie ornaments with the little ones at the Christmas party this Saturday
Making a gingerbread house with L
Buying an advent calendar
Doing some baking/prep/helping out with my in-laws big advent party this Sunday
Remembering to light the advent candles every Sunday until Christmas
Attending the crafting night at the local library next week to make my own Christmas cards and decorations from old books
Celebrating Lucia Day
Making Chocolate Gingerbread Truffles
To make my Christmas card list… and write and send all the cards
… and much more that I will add as we go along!
Oh and, if I can, I wouldn’t mind trying one of the great Christmas recipes by No Naughties! For those who don’t know No Naughties is all about “naturally sweet treats without sugar, wheat, gluten, yeast and other allergens” and whatsmore, No Naughties has just released two e-books in time for Christmas! One of them is FREE for download for perhaps a couple of hours more only… so get in quick and get your copy here 🙂

Miss MarZIPan …. you are most ambitious. How do you do it? I attended a blessing way here in California with a gal from Poland. She had everyone that came bring a bead which they strung on a necklace so she could wear it during the birth. Each participant blessed the bead and the new mom. It was very touching.

Hi there! Hmmm… you know what? I think my motivation to celebrate right now comes partly from the fact that I love to celebrate occasions and partly from the fact that I was unable to even make a sandwich for myself just a couple of months ago when I was bed-bound. It’s especially important to me to have as many joyous times with my little boy now that I can (and while we’re still a family of 3) and also to celebrate this pregnancy for, despite all the challenges I have faced, it has been one of the greatest miracles of my life 🙂 Lovely about your friend’s blessingway! We are going to do that with a bracelet! 🙂 x

I am tired just looking at your list. Thanks for the 2012 blog award — I thought I’d posted a comment and then realized that I hadn’t….it has been one of those weeks. Good luck with all the holiday preparations. Hopefully you find a bit of time to put up your feet before baby #2 arrives.
mmmarzipan says
Aw, thank you! Yes, it seems a lot to get done, but the Christmas stuff will spread out over a month and then once the new year arrives, I’ll have about 5 weeks during which I plan to do very little at all 😉 x

You are a marvel…!
Congratulations to you; a ‘crafting circle’..!
All the very best with it, and all that you have planned… And, a baby in the mix as well…!
mmmarzipan says
Oh, thanks Carolyn 🙂 You’re very sweet 🙂 The crafting circle has been great so far! I couldn’t have been happier with how that day went (I will try to post a little about it later today). I hope all is great with you!

You are going to be super busy 🙂 A Blessingway sounds like a lovely celebration.

Thank you so much! Yes, I figure after all we’ve been through this pregnancy, focusing on “blessings” is a top priority… so we will incorporate some blessingway activities with the “look” of a more traditional baby shower 🙂

I love your Operation Advent list!! My, my your going to be a busy bunny! 🙂
mmmarzipan says
Hi Kristy-Lee! Thanks so much… and yes… lots to do 😛 Luckily this is all stuff that I have decided to do for fun, and not obligation… so if something has to give, I’ll just let it go 🙂
