I am determined to apply DIY motivation to as many aspects of the upcoming blessingway/baby shower as possible, and the decorations are no exception! Thank goodness for Pinterest and my wonderful Project Pinterest board, onto which I had pinned this fabulous tutorial for gorgeous paper flowers. I have modified the steps somewhatΒ as I am using these flowers for decorations rather than wrapping, but the basic principles remain the same. Below you will find instructions to make one large flower. Being thrifty as I am π I used up all remaining tissue paper by making flowers of smaller sizes too (and some butterfly-shaped confetti… but that’s for another post).
TO MAKE ONE FLOWER YOU NEED: 5 or 6 sheets tissue paper, cut to 18 cm x 30 cm 1 skinny pipe cleaner or 20-30 cmΒ length of florist wire DIRECTIONS:
- Cut tissue paper to size and place short side in front of you, folding paper accordion style in 2.5 cm folds.
- Cut ends of folded tissue paper into half circles.
- Fold floral wire in half and place in the middle of tissue paper, twisting the ends to secure.
- Carefully pull up the first layer of tissue paper and continue pulling each layer upwards until all tissue layers are separated and flower is formed.

I love your flowers! I make tissue paper balls for all the kid’s birthday parties and hang them from the ceiling! Such a dramatic effect for so little money!

Thanks so much π And what a great idea! We bought some inexpensive Chinese paper lanterns for our little one’s 1st birthday but it would have been lovely to mix them with tissue paper balls too π

Those almost seem too easy. I wish some of my Girlfriends daughters would start getting married, I’m dying to use some of these ideas at maybe a bridal shower or baby shower. Very cute.

First I want to say a huge THANK YOU for reading my posts (from beginning to end!). Second, I had a flashback to being a girl and making similar tissue paper flowers. Third, how are you and your new little cupcake doing? Madly in love, I’m sure. π

Very much in love :), yes. And it’s a pleasure to follow your blog! I remember making flowers out of crepe paper as a girl, but I can’t remember the technique I used then. Hope things are great with you π x
